| I am talking about the one that has the same shape as the Utah Cruisers logo. I see them on eBay and am not sure if they are originals or not. I was wondering if any of you have installed one, and if so where did you put it? I had this crazy idea last night that I wanted to remove the little sombrero from the back and replace it with the metal or plastic or whatever it is old school logo in its place. Has anybody else done it? If so... post pics. If not... tell me what you'd think about it. Would it look cool or lame or what? Maybe I should just lose the sombrero altogether and put nothing there.
I have also been considering changing my "FJ Cruiser" logo on the back right to something else. Like a "LandCruiser" or an "FJ 120" or a Prado or something else. I just like to mess with people and think it would be funny to have no Toyota Sombrero, an old 4x4 emblem, lose the FJ Cruiser or modify it, and keep the Trail Teams badge. I am thinking it would be kind of fun. But then again... I've been known to be an idiot on more than most occasions. |

| I have seen the old 4-Wheel Drive emblem on many an FJ. (I think Bob's rockin' one)
I had one that I never installed, I'll see if I can find it and you can have it (they are now made of plastic)
I was thinking about putting the Hybrid emblems from the Prius on there, just for giggles. _________________ brett

| Brett, that would be hilarious to go with the hybrid. I would pay you money to go to the DMV and try to get them to give you a carpool plate. Heh heh. Maybe that can be a contest. Who can come up with the coolest or craziest badge on their vehicle. You can put them on with magnets for a couple of weeks and see what reactions you get. For example..... you put on the hybrid logo, and maybe I'll put on a diesel. I was checking out the old school landcruiser logos with cursive writing last night on eBay and thought that might look pretty sweet on the back or on the front fenders. Of course if I go as crazy as I want, then my FJ would start to look like a South American soccer jersey. And that is probably not a good idea. |

| The original 4WD emblem appeared on 40 Series LandCruisers. While I too have seen them on FJ Cruisers believe me you will open yourself up to some harassment from LandCruiser die-hards, worse if you put LandCruiser emblems on. It would be like putting Cobra stickers on a V6 mustang Fwiw, even if it were a LandCruiser (lets not even start that debate), it wouldn't be an FJ120, the first letter(s) of a LandCruisers codified designation related to the motor series, F, 2F, 3F corresponds to the FJ40, FJ60, FJ80, etc and the 1FZFE was the FZJ80, 1UZ was the UZJ100, aka 100 Series Land Cruiser. If your going to start calling it a model number, at lease have it be factual which would make it the GSJ10 or 15 |

| I am well aware that it's "technically" a GSJ15. I've been reading IH8MUD for a long time too. You seemed to miss my point Kurt (at least in my point of view). I wasn't implying that I was driving a Landcruiser or disrespecting them in any way. I have driven plenty of Landcruisers, I love them, I respect them, and in fact am shopping for another one (a 40 or an 80) as I speak to rebuild with my son. I am happy to leave that all important stature point to those who truly drive "REAL" Landcruisers if it's that important to them. I said the point was that it would be cool to have a contest to see who could put on the coolest or craziest via stick on magnets strictly for reactions sake. I said elsewhere that my neighbor ran up to me the day I bought my 2008 Trail Teams and said "HEY, is that the new Landcruiser, man I used to have one of those in off-white years ago..." and on and on and on, and he wouldn't let me get a word in. I finally got a word in and said it was actually an FJ Cruiser and wasn't a Landcruiser, and that Landcruisers were still being made and sold in the US and around the world, but that this was a different vehicle that was designed to resemble the old FJ40's, but was built on a platform like the 4Runner. He just sort of glazed over and said, "Well... it's a sweet Landcruiser." So putting a Landcruiser logo on wouldn't be intended as a slap in the face to "real" Landcruiser drivers. It was merely something funny to me considering many interactions I've had and discussions and what reactions I'd expect to see. Maybe I'll put a "Hummer H4 Solar" logo on it instead and see what reactions I get. I'm sure it would be funny and apparently I wouldn't offend those who take the Landcruiser name so seriously. Like if Brett put a hybrid logo off of a Prius on his FJ for a few weeks, then I'd be interested to hear the looks, questions, and stories he would come up with afterward. If you were to take your FJ40 and put a LandRover emblem or a Jeep Scrambler emblem on it for a few weeks then I'd be interested to hear what people had to say. Especially if you went on a ride with the group and pretended you didn't know what they were talking about when they brought it up. I guess you'd see it as sacrilege. I'd just think it was funny. That's my personality though. I typically tend to wear out my welcome quickly by being a complete wiseass, and that's ok with me. I enjoy who I am, even if nobody else does. I am at heart as big of a clown as you'll ever meet. I enjoy having fun. I enjoy messing with people. I also enjoy being different. If that offends somebody who feels better than me or that I'm an idiot then so be it. I didn't realize they owned the rights to the 4 Wheel Drive emblem. I thought that was a general Toyota thing that I thought I had seen on everything from Hi-Luxes to Tacomas to 80 series to 60 series, to mini trucks, and on and on over the last few years. Maybe it "technically" doesn't belong there if we're all being purists... but I think it is supposed to be fun. Giving a tip of the cap to the original is also showing respect I think, and not saying, "Hey look... I put an emblem on my 2010 FJ. Now I think I'm driving an FJ40 just like you." I know how cliques work and I know that wouldn't fly... but last time I checked the FJ40 guys weren't inviting me on any trips anyway! From my point of view... I loved driving a TSi AWD Turbo Eagle Talon that looked no more menacing than a Honda Civic, and it was enjoyable for me to run up on any Mustang... in particular the V6 Mustangs with Cobra emblems. It was fun and funny. Those were my competitive days. Now I'm mellow and try to enjoy life. I always thought it was funny when somebody would drive a Volkswagen Beetle that had a Rolls Royce hood and grille on it. I am sure some guy in a Rolls was out there getting offended over the whole thing, but come on... nobody thought it was really a Rolls. They just laughed at the ABSURDITY of it all. If you can't laugh at the absurdity of an FJ with a hybrid sticker, or a 2010 FJ Cruiser with a logo that is 40 years old on it merely for the sake of messing with people for fun then I apologize that we don't have a similar sense of humor. If a guy driving a Tacoma put an FJ Cruiser emblem on the back of his truck I don't think I'd be ripping him out of the driver's seat and attempting to throw down. I'd probably laugh at the fact that he had done it and think that it was cool that he liked the FJ. Just like I'd pay somebody $100 if they put the Smokey and the Bandit Trans-Am sticker on the hood of their 2007 FJ Cruiser in Voodoo Blue. Call me a complete non-purist and buffoon if you will. I just think people that would be willing to see it as a can of worms or anything else because we were horsing around with emblems is probably somebody who would want to punch me in the face after talking to me for five minutes, because thats just my personality. No offense intended and I'll make sure I steer clear and keep my ideas like this to myself. I just think you might have overestimated the sincerity and rationale behind why I suggested it all. Sorry to bring up a sore spot. It wasn't my intention. Enjoy your Landcruiser, and please... don't let the Landcruiser purists know I spoke of this. I wouldn't want them hooking me up to winches at all 4 legs and ripping my limbs off of my body like during the dark ages. That's not my idea of a fun way to go. |

I'm curious, why do "Land Cruiser die-hards" have a problem with the FJC? Seriously, I think they give more respect to a Prius or a Corolla. The die-hards you mention need to relax a bit, stop looking down their noses, and maybe even return a friendly wave when they see us on the trail.
I think I'll change the emblems on the back of my truck from "FJ Cruiser" to "Not a LandCruiser." That way none of the LandCruiser purist get confused and think I'm driving a LandCruiser. |

Who says they do? I don't, I have some very good friends and regulars on runs I do that own/drive FJC's. We have FJC owners that are active and well-liked members of the Wasatch Cruisers, as well as Tacoma, 4Runners and mini-trucks. I've never seen it be an issue beyond friendly ribbing, the same ribbing 100 Series guys give to 80 Series owners or 55 owners get from everyone. While I will agree everyone seems to interpret that ribbing differently Now start putting LandCruiser emblems on a FJC or Tacoma or 4Runner or Prius and all bets are off, they will have problems, just as Rover owners, BMW owners, Jeep owners and any other xxx model owners do, protect their heritage. Events like CruiseMoab, etc are full of FJC's, non-issue. Just as groups like TLCA welcomed 4Runners, Tacomas, they have welcomed FJC's, a complete non-issue imo.

Don't bother, they already know
Its funny how fast these conversations flip like this, why turn the tables so fast? This isn't about whether or not an FJC is a LC in the eyes of many, its calling it what it is. Why are some FJC owners on such edge about this issue? Is there some past history that I'm missing out on? I've never once had a conversation like this even with any one of my hundreds of FJC customers?

Ok I get your point. I might be acting a little to sensitive, but there is animosity towards FJC owners from some LandCruiser owners. Like we don't belong in the same club or something.
I'm good though. Like Brad said, we are all Toyota owners. Thank you for continuing the dialog and not letting it end on a sour note. |

| Yes, I got one on the back door. I actually have an extra if you want one!
I really don't care if a LandCruiser owner thinks it is lame. I like it. My FJC was patterned after the original FJ40--something the Land Barge (I mean Land Cruiser) nowadays can't say. (THAT should stir up some controversy.)
Not that I don't like the newer Land Barges. I am thinking about buying my wife a used one. Maybe I'll put an old school 4WD emblem on it too. LOL |
