PostSubject: Have any of you painted the little Toyota logo on the grill?   Mon Aug 09, 2010 6:28 pm

I want to paint mine white. It looks stupid having the truck be all blacked out everywhere else, but the toyota logo being silver. I think I'd like to paint it that tan color to match the truck or most likely white so it is like the old school FJ's and Landcruisers. Anybody have tips on how to paint it? I did paint the rear trailer hitch bezel on my old one and I sanded it, put some adherent stuff on and then rattle canned it black and it looked good. I can't remember what grit of paper I used, what adherent I used, whether I primed it, and whatnot. I also don't know what color of white would look best or if there is a particular brand and color code of paint I should be using that will look spectacular. Any suggestions by any of you who have done this would be much appreciated.

Just melt off the plastic rivets on the back. Paint it up. Think about the little sections between the letters, I'd want those parts black. Bob painted his I think. You'll want to put it back on with 3M adhesive tape or similar.

One of these days I might get around to doing mine. I'm just waiting to get bored one weekend.

I think the old school FJ's had chrome emblems.

Thanks Brett.

I think you're right on the chrome emblems. Dangit... why did I think they were white? I just think it would look bad if I painted it black like the rest of the stuff since it is all blacked out. It needs some contrast, but there isn't any silver really anywhere else on the truck so it just seems out of place. Maybe I should try to match the sandstorm color of the truck with a spray can of touch up paint or something? Any ideas on what would look best?

Chime in Bob if you have any additional painting expert advice.

Maybe we ought to have a "paint-a-thon" instead of a "wrench-a-thon". Anybody want to turn their garage into a clean room/spray booth? Smile

By the way... how many of you have seen Moose's FJ? That thing is amazing. I think we all need to hound him into posting up pictures. I think it should be a requirement that all members have to post a full gallery of their vehicle from all different angles, plus close ups of all mods. jocolor
