I've got a couple of books full of trail runs here that are entirely specific to Utah. If you also have them speak up and we can brainstorm some things. I know some of you have met Tony Huegel and have his book. It is excellent. Spiral bound, will fit in the glove box and is full of great info:

Link for Utah Byways (very worth it)! http://www.amazon.com/Utah-Byways-Utahs-Backcountry-Drives/dp/0899974244/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1280822916&sr=1-1

Get Huegel's book! If you don't have it and really want it then let me know and I'll see about a group order for the "club" to spread around if I can. Just come up with a number of what we need. They are like $16 a book, and I'd help cover as much as I can for a few people so that we can get them into other hands and we'd get on the same page on researching and planning a few trips. If any of you know Tony, maybe ask him if he sells the books directly, because sometimes authors sell direct for less and they get to keep a bigger chunk of the change. Here's an idea... maybe the owner of this site might want to look into having a little store and selling resources like this to cover the bills and to drive some traffic (heh heh). Smile

The other book is called: Backcountry Adventures Utah: The Ultimate Guide to the Utah Backcountry for Anyone with a Sport Utility Vehicle [Paperback]. I absolutely love this book. I got it off Amazon for about $22 two years ago. It doesn't appear that Amazon has it in print now, but I do have a copy here and I am sure if we picked a run out of it then I could write out the particulars. Both books are incredible resources.
They've been invaluable and include very specific maps and GPS coordinates and the books are Utah specific.

Maybe at some point when we all get together we can bring any resources we have and share and come up with plans for a few runs, and also get ideas of what is out there. I know I would love to share these books with others as they have been great for me. Sometimes it is hard to know "where to start" and these books are starting points and then some.

Both of those are great resources, I've utilized them for trips all over the state!

Another worth picking up particularly for the Moab area is "Guide to Moab by Charles Wells", hands down the best guide book on the Moab area.

Lastly for those into multi-day excursions, be it a weekend in the Swell or a traverse across Utah in the dirt, check out ExpeditionUtah.com, its forum based trip planning and research site. You won't find tech or vehicles specific chat, 100% content related to the trails, the history, etc.

I've used the "Guide to Moab" book on all of my trips to Moab. It is an excellent book with really good trail descriptions and directions. He also provides updates electronically on the WWW.
