Expedition Utah December Summit & Lucin Overnighter
Mon Dec 05, 2011 7:41 pm by cruiseroutfit
What: Expedition Utah would like to invite you to join us for our December Summit - "Freeze Your Tail Off 3" Overnighter.

Back again for 2011 is our annual 'Freeze Your Tail Off Overnighter'. Its become one of our more popular runs each year and we expect it to be no different this year.

When: Friday, December 16th and Saturday, December 17th. We'll be leaving SLC Friday (12/16) evening (meeting at Delle, UT along I-80 at 6:30pm for those that want to caravan from Delle to Lucin), camping at the Lucin Sun Tunnels that evening and then waking up early in the morning to watch the sunrise through the tunnels. It is several days off of the exact solstice but so long as we have clear skies it should make for some neat viewing. We will be returning home that evening (Saturday 12/17)

Where: For those arriving later in the evening, we'll be easy to spot at our camp site near the Tunnels. Following the Solstice celebrations Saturday morning we will travel back towards SLC in the dirt, with optional exit points for those that need to return home earlier. Potential stops include the Lucin ghost town, the Transcontinental Railroad system, the Hogup, Newfoundland and Lakeside Mountains, Spiral Jetty or the Silver Island Mountain range north of Wendover. Trail Difficulty: 3/10 though snow & mud can make some sections downright brutal.

Who: Anyone and everyone. Whether you're a seasoned traveler or someone just getting into exploring Utah's backcountry and varied historical sites we encourage you to come out. There is no group size limit for this event but please RSVP so we know who to expect.

CB Channel 20 & 2M 146.460. GPS Coordinate of Sun Tunnels: N 41.30 W 113.86.
